After shooting international festival for more than a decade. This is what I’ve learned, and I’m excited to share some practical tips and tricks that will help you create stunning images that stand out.
Mastering the Basics: Techno Photography Tips
Before you dive into the chaos of a festival, make sure your gear and settings are ready to roll. Here’s what I focus on as a festival photographer:
Use a fast lens: A lens with a wide aperture (f/1.8 or f/2.8) lets in more light, which is crucial in low-light festival environments.
Shoot in manual mode: Control your shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to adapt quickly to changing light.
Keep ISO manageable: High ISO can introduce noise, but don’t be afraid to push it when needed. Modern cameras handle noise better than ever.
Set a fast shutter speed: To freeze movement, aim for at least 1/125 sec. For creative motion blur, slow it down.
Use continuous autofocus: Festivals are dynamic, so tracking moving subjects keeps your shots sharp.
Remember, preparation is key. Charge your batteries, bring extra memory cards, and pack a lightweight tripod or monopod if allowed.
