Did you already see my video about how to Photograph Special Effects (SFX) at Festivals? Check it out!
Tip 1: Focus on Fashion and Individuality at the festival
Techno festivals are known for their fashion and unique styles. Take advantage of this by shooting photos of festival-vistors in their most creative outfits. Look for patterns, colors, and textures that catch your eye and experiment with different angles to make your shots stand out.
Pro-festival photography tip: Drop mental pin points in the crowd of these fashionable people you want to shoot. 📍 This way you keep focus on multiple shots at once.
Tip 2: Capture Symmetry at the techno festival
One of my favorite techniques for shooting stunning festival shots is playing with symmetry. Find a focal point, such as a DJ booth or stage, and wait for the perfect moment to snap a photo. By aligning the background and focal point, you can create a visually striking image that captures the energy of the festival.
Tip 3: Experiment with Lighting as an event photographer
Lighting can make or break a photograph, especially when it comes to festival photography. Techno festivals are known for their neon lights, which can create some stunning effects in your photographs. Experiment with different angles and perspectives to see how the lighting can create a unique and exciting look in your photos.

Tip 4: Get High - even when You're a Tall photographer
If you're not the tallest person in the crowd, don't worry! Just be creative a look for spots where you can get higher than the rest. I always climb on stuff like ladders, benches or I even go into a crane. And sometimes I even bring my own little stool. I mean, why not?!
Pro festival photography tip: -> Event photography is not always about finding the right spots. Sometime you have to create them. Like I did at Smeerboel festival in Utrecht. Where I asked to take a ride on a cherry picker.
Tip 5: Don't Be Afraid to Delete photos
One of the biggest challenges of festival photography is sorting through the hundreds (or even thousands) of photos you take. Don't be afraid to delete photos that don't quite capture the moment. It's better to have a few great shots than a lot of mediocre ones. Take the time to choose your favorites and showcase them in your portfolio, website, or social media.
That's it for my tips on how to photograph a techno festival! I hope you found them helpful and that you're now feeling inspired to shoot some amazing shots yourself. Remember to focus on symmetry, fashion and the energy of the festival, and don't be afraid to get creative with your shots. And of course, don't forget to have fun!
